The Big Meadow in Athlone is a huge meadow between the river Shannon and the Athlone canal. It’s a haven for wildlife and in spring when it’s rained every day of the year so far it’s a perfect mirror to the everlasting sky.
The big skies of the Hidden heartlands are most apparent here in the low flat valley of the immense river.
I found this place a breathtaking inspiration and painted it en plain air from my set up on my bicycle
