Ben Bulben dominates the Sligo corner of the Wild Atlantic Way. This giant escarpment looms out of the Irish landscape and defines the climate, the culture, the nature of this glorious region.
WB Yeats was mesmerised by it’s ever present impact. Indeed everyone who passes through here is drawn to it’s magnificent presence.
I cycled the little lanes that skirt around the mountain. Sheep in the wild bush meadows jump over the ancient dry stone walls in search of fresh grazing. the wee tractor passing the ruined croft is dwarfed by curly horned ram standing guardian to this plateau.
Even the weather is created by Ben Bulben’s presence and birds wheeel on the thermals
