Painting the Outer Hebrides

Cycling round Britain

Circumnavigating the country with my paints

IThere is a window of opportunity to add to my coastline of Britain by cycling and painting the Hebridean Way

This long distance cycling walking route links 10 islands, 6 causeways and 2 ferries

It’s over 200 miles along the ring of archipeligo islands that fringe the west coast of Scotalnd and tempt the adventurer to come and explore.

I left my Berkshire home in october and took several trains to london before cathcing the overnight sleeper train to Glasgow. Across to Queen Street station as the sun came up and a 3 and half hour rail journey to Oban with a change of train on the West Highland line at Crianlarich.

Squalls blew in as I loaded the bike onto the Cal Mac ferry through the narrow channels of the inner hebrides for 5 hours to Castlebay on the wee southern tip of the isle of Barra.

24 hours by public transport and I’m ready for a grand adventure…

Castle Bay Barra
Tarbert old pier, Harris
North Uist crofts
Barra airport
Luskentyre Beach, Harris
Callanish Stones
Isle of Harris
Eileen Donan Castle

South Uist Flora MacDonald home

It is without a doubt one of the great cycle and painting routes of the World. There are more paintings coming from this trip when I am back in the studio. Send an email to enquire about pieces you see here
