Sunrise over the snow

Does a snow day stop all painting?

We woke to thrilling unexpected glowing sunrise.

Red sky in the morning

shepherd’s warning

Plenty of reason to be warned. Within seconds the snow was falling thickly and solidly. The morning was beautifully whitened out and I knew I had to paint it.

There are lots of snowy painters I admire.

Claude Monet’s haystacks in the snow

Pieter Breughel’s winter scenes from Flanders

Pekka Halonen the Finnish winter artist

The Canadian Group of Seven who brought the Rockies in winter to the masses.

This is an altogether more modest affair. I loved the sunrise and the wanted to include the snow falling that almost immediately washed out the colours of the sunrise.

My garden is covered in snow, i flicked the paint onto the board and it stuck just like the snow.
