High Summer

I like the high clouds blazing in an English summer sky. The ripening cornfield with the sunlight on the ancient fence and the distant blue horizons.

I was inspired by the Edward Thomas poem Adlestrop

Yes, I remember Adlestrop —
The name, because one afternoon
Of heat the express-train drew up there
Unwontedly. It was late June…..


And willows, willow-herb, and grass,
And meadowsweet, and haycocks dry,
No whit less still and lonely fair
